Fresh faces flock to applicants' day

University. Thousands of teenagers leaving school are faced with the decision of where to study, what to study, where are friends going and more importantly, what is the approximate distance from the parents. An applicants' day provides the opportunity for some of these questions to be answered.

Today's applicants' day provides prospective students with an insight to life at RGU.

Through the doors at the Robert Gordon University Business School, the vast atrium is crammed full of stalls, students handing out free stuff that we all want and a crowd of pale-faced prospective students.

Come along to one of these open days and you will witness a huge range of emotions.

First of all, the current students. They walk past the stalls and teenagers with a whimsical smile and a sigh of “remember when that was us”.

The lecturers run around trying to recruit new students onto their course. Surely they compete to see who can find the most students on this day.

Potential students, most of them fresh out of school, find themselves shocked by the differences between secondary school and university.

Not forgetting the parents of course. They look on and smile as their children struggle under the weight of course prospectuses.

Whether this is a loving smile showing how proud they are or whether it’s a smile expressing their delight at a free room in the house, it’s hard to tell.

Chances are it is in fact the heart warming thought. The second one.
