"Teenage" joyriders flip stolen car

by Ben Philip

Joyriders are being hunted by police after crashing a stolen car into a tree and flipping it on its side.

A young male crashed the black Toyota Prius on Cummings Park Circle in Northfield, yesterday afternoon.

The crash occurred at lunchtime yesterday.
The driver and male passenger, both believed to be teenagers, fled the scene after being helped from the car.

A resident, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, said she was "shocked" at the incident.

She said: "There were two kids in the car. They were roughly 15 or 16 years old by the size of them.

"They came speeding down here at around 1pm, they hit the tree, and flipped the car on its side."

The teens were helped from the car by neighbours, and then fled in the direction of Moir Avenue.

Resident Elizabeth Robertson, 81, called the police after hearing the collision just feet from her house.

She said: "When I saw the car, I was sure that somebody must have been hurt."

A spokeswoman for Grampian Police confirmed inquiries were ongoing into the incident.
